Celebrating sport at Holy Trinity and our School Games Mark – an award for sporting excellence!

At Holy Trinity C of E Primary School, sport has a high profile. We have a dedicated P.E. teacher who delivers the sports curriculum to every class across the school and we are incredibly proud to share that, last year, our school was awarded the Silver School Games Mark, recognising our commitment to providing opportunities for all children to be active, enjoy sport and develop their confidence and skills.

The award celebrates our work in promoting participation, inclusion, teamwork and positive sporting experiences, while encouraging children to develop a lifelong love of being active. Every year we congratulate our pupils for their enthusiasm, effort and fantastic sportsmanship. This achievement is a reflection of the whole school community, and we remain committed to building on this success!

Our curriculum promotes:

Inclusion and participation for all pupils
Competitive and non-competitive sporting opportunities
Character development including resilience, teamwork, fairness and respect

Running alongside the curriculum in order to further fulfil our aims, the children are encouraged to participate in a range of extra-curricular clubs and activities. On offer are, for instance, martial arts in the form of Samurai Club, yoga, playball and multi sports. In addition, we have a football and netball team which train on a weekly basis and enjoy success in local fixtures.

As members of the Ascot and Maidenhead Sport Partnership, an organisation overseen by Partnership Development Managers who co-ordinate groups of secondary, primary and special schools across a local area with the objective of increasing the quality and quantity of physical activity, PE and sports opportunities for young people, the children benefit hugely. Regular opportunities are given to children across the school to participate in a number of activities, some competitive, with pupils from other local schools at a variety of venues across the borough. Events include ‘Sportshall Athletics’, Invictus Games, the ‘Big Active 60 Games’, a ‘Dynamos Cricket Skills Festival’ and golfing events. Success in some of these events have secured places at the annual Berkshire School Games.

Year 3 have a term of learning to swim at Braywick Leisure Centre.

Membership of the local Sport Partnership gives the children an opportunity to participate in The Windsor and Maidenhead’s annual Dance Festival which brings schools from across the borough together to perform. This task falls to one class each year. However, all girls are invited to audition for the borough’s elite dance group and boys at Holy Trinity C of E Primary School along with boys from school across the borough are invited to attend after school classes with our specialist dance teacher forming part of a boys’ performance dance troupe. Dance has a high profile during our Arts and Culture Themed Week.

This along with participation in National Fitness Days have ensured Holy Trinity C of E Primary School has been successful in achieving silver and gold in The School Games Mark, a government-led award scheme which celebrates a school’s commitment to developing competitive sport within schools and communities.

Sports Premium

The dedicated primary PE and Sports Premium funding was introduced in September 2013. The school leadership identify how to allocate the funds in order to maximise the sporting opportunities for our children. A typical primary school with 250 primary-aged pupils this year received £18,500.
